Steps in Opening Export Markets

One of the efforts that proved able to survive during the economic crisis is the sector of small and medium businesses. Priority sectors such as handicrafts, clothing, livestock, fisheries, agriculture, plantation, and food and beverages, should be developed with consideration not only to meet the domestic market but also export markets. The potential of natural resources and labor are allowed cultivation of this sector.

There are a few suggestions to consider before we start trying to export markets overseas:

1. Never do trip abroad to attend trade promotion or trade show before we really know the needs and wants of consumers. It is worth noting, especially for products such as fashion, bags, textiles, garments, shoes, and handicrafts.

2.Need to be prepared in advance catalog and price list, and the approximate delivery period and the minimum order that can be done.

3.Find as many importers list related to our products, can be via the Internet, CDs, or books that contain catalog data in the current importer or Indotrade Guide can be obtained at NAFED (National Export Development Agency)

4.From the information already obtained, we must know our prospects.

Foreign markets are open to absorb the results of domestic production, especially for small businesses. With the market expansion will boost production capacity if it worked properly so his chances for profit. In contrast, the entry of certain products from abroad (imports) at a price far below the price of products in the country is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to bring it to Indonesia, both in the form of products as raw materials for processing and finished goods back to direct marketing.
